This set was devised nearly 2,000 years ago by Hua T'o, the father of Chinese medicine. These Qi Gong exercises mimic the movements of the crane, bear, monkey, deer and tiger to strengthen the internal organs and harmonize the 5 elemental energies (fire, water, earth, wood, metal). Dr. Jay is a force of nature himself and an incredibly dynamic teacher and adds a depth of understanding to this ancient set that is unsurpassable.
“The Five Animal Frolics is not only the oldest choreographed exercise system in the world but also the only legacy of China’s greatest physician, Hua T’o.” — Ken Cohen, East West Journal, Feb. 1982
At this workshop we will:Enhance the flow of qi (life energy)
Strengthen the internal organs, nerves, muscles, and bones Improve the health and vitality of body, mind, and spirit Prolong life “The spirit of the crane is light, cool, and tranquil. Because the spirit is cool and even, it disperses anxiety and stress. Through tranquility we come to accept the constant gifts of grace and peace, and enter joyfully into life.” –Dr. Jay Dunbar
“The spirit of the monkey is adaptable and playful. Absorbing and
distributing, it can seem capricious and mischievous. Yet it’s concern
is fairness, so it seeks balance. Holding on and letting go, it must
discriminate. Self-centered, it centers itself and then reaches out to
others.” – Dr. Jay Dunbar
“The spirit of the deer is elegant and erect. It is wide-eyed and
alert, sensitive and vigilant: on guard against both external threats
and internal turmoil. Vigorous when necessary, it can be quick to act,
yet like a living tree, its inner nature is calm, gentle, adaptable,
steady and patient. It prefers to live and let live, valuing harmony.”
– Dr. Jay Dunbar
